The Arran Amarone Cask Finish is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Arran Distillery. It is aged initially in traditional oak barrels before being finished in casks that previously held Amarone wine, a rich and full-bodied Italian red wine. This finishing process imparts unique flavors and characteristics to the whisky.
Arran’s two distilleries are the only operating distilleries in the isle of Arran, although the island was once famous for its moonshining and illegal production of whisky.
It was Harrold Currie a former director of Chivas who came with the idea of building a distillery in Arran, and the distillery was built in the north side of the island, in the area of Lochranza, in 1995.
During 2019 a new distillery was built in the south area of the island which is known as “the Lagg”. Almost all of the distillery’s production is used for the needs of its own single malt lineup.
