Balblair distillery is located in Edderton, Ross-shire. It was founded in 1790, but it was rebuilt in 1872 in order to get closer to the railway station.
John Ross was the founder of Balblair and although the distillery site changed, the water source remained the same and it is the Ault Dearg burn that provides water for the distillation until today.
The distillery stayed in the family for two full generation as John’s son Andrew took over in 1836. Ownership has changed hands a few times since then, but no one has changed production methods:
A handful of employees, 1 wash still, 1 spirit still, long fermentation and slow distillation in order to keep everything traditional.
Today they are owned by Inver House Distillers Limited (sometimes called InterBev).
