Distillery info

Aberfeldy is a small production house in the Highland Perthshire. It was actually founded by John Dewar’s sons, John Alexander and Tommy, in 1896.

By 1875 Dewar’s blend was known worldwide and the firm needed a distillery. The obvious factor in choosing the correct place where a distillery will be built is the access in natural water. The Pitilie Burn stream which leads to river Tay provided just that.

But among other reasons, the main reason was emotional: John Alexander and Tommy chose a location near their father’s birthplace.

Nowadays, Aberfeldy is home of the ‘Dewar’s world of whisky’ visiting center. They keep things simple at Aberfeldy. All of their grain is locally grown, and they use only native Scottish yeasts. All of their Whisky is aged in ex-Bourbon casks on site.

Before 1999, nearly all of their production went into blends. But that year they issued their first single malt; a 12YO. Building upon that success, additional agings and specialty releases are now available.
