A farmer after the name Robert Hay built a distillery on the Rechlerich farm in 1836. In 1865 John Grant bought the distillery and his descendants are the owners until today.
John Grant passed away in 1889 and his son George Grant would take control. Only for a single year as he passed away as well in 1890 and now his widow Elsie and his sons, John and George became the new owners of the distillery.
Nowadays the fifth generation of The Grants of Glenfarclas still run the distillery through J&G Grant Company. The 6 stills in the distillery, are the largest in Scotland and since the distillery was not selling much of its whisky for blends there is a great stock of casks maturing and the access in really old casks is relatively easy when it comes to Glenfarclas.
