Glenfiddich distillery is located in Dufftown, Moray in Speyside. The word “Glenfiddich ” means “Valley of the deer ” in Gaelic.
The distillery was founded by William Grant. William Grant along with his whole family started building the distillery in 1826 until it was ready, one year later in 1827
During prohibition, Glenfiddich not only stayed active, but in 1923 Gordon Grant (William’s grandson) increased whisky production.
During 1957 a coppersmith was built on site, while in 1959 a cooperage was installed as well. In 1963 Hans Scleger introduced what would become the iconic three sided bottle.
Glenfiddich is one of the rare cases where the distillery is still run by its founders, through William Grant & Sons Ltd. Its expansions and the demand for its single malts have led the distillery to the outstanding output of approximately 10 million liters per year.
