Distillery info

Midleton distillery is located in Midleton, County Cork. It refers to two distilleries as there is the Old Midleton Distillery and the New Midleton distillery.

Three brothers, James, Jeremiah and Daniel Murphy would be the first to found and run a distillery in the specific area.

Their ambition in production was proved by acquiring the largest pot still ever constructed, which was so big that it was assembled on site, with the distillery built around it.

By the start of 1840s the Irish Whiskey would face its first (but not the last), so in 1867 several distilleries in Cork formed Cork Distilleries Company (CDC) after Murphy’s suggestion so by 1868 five distilleries would be parts of the Company: Midleton, North Mall, The Green, Daly’s and Watercourse.

After another crisis in Irish Whiskey a new alliance would be forged between CDC, John Jameson & Son and John Powers & Son, the Irish Distillers.

A New Midleton distillery would be founded in 1975, and in the same year the Old Midleton Distillery stopped production. It resumed as a visiting center, and today it hosts the “Jameson Experience”

Several Irish Whiskeys are produced in the New Midleton Distillery, like Jameson, Paddy, Red Breast, Powers, Green Spot and Midleton very rare.
